Helping DSM Become a More Active Community Through Fitness

Personal Trainer in DSM

May 24, 2024

As a Certified Fitness Coach ISSA and Certified Personal Trainer, my goal with Premier Personal Training, my Greater Des Moines (DSM) business, is to assist clients with personal training, nutrition and health coaching. Before I started Premier Personal Training, I was a club manager and personal training director in Eastern Iowa until the Covid-19 pandemic hit and fitness clubs across the country closed. It was after I moved back to the Des Moines area thatI decided to form my own LLC and started Premier Personal Training. I decided to open my personal training business because it was a great opportunity to help people live a healthier lifestyle in an already active community like Des Moines.

Owning a Business in Greater Des Moines

For me, owning my business in DSM means that I can help people regardless of ability or availability. One of the best perks about Greater Des Moines is that locations, regardless of city limits, are so accessible. My business model is people-focused, fitting into their lifestyles. I can meet people and give them the convenience and peace of mind of providing a quality workout, whether at work, home or online. The ability for my clients to choose where and when they want to work fitness into their lives is something that’s unique to my business and allows clients to choose how they reach their fitness goals.

Owning my business in DSM also has allowed me to promote my business effectively. Here I can reach my target audience and know I would not have the same opportunities if I were working at a fitness center in the area. Premier Personal Training became a member of the West Des Moines Chamber of Commerce and the Urbandale Chamber of Commerce to meet other business owners. Thanks to my memberships, I’ve gotten more leads and opportunities than I would with my traditional marketing strategies, including the chance to sponsor events and connect with folks who fit the demographic I serve. Working with the chambers has given my business more exposure in the DSM community and quicker exposure. It’s been great because it doesn’t matter the size of your business — they go above and beyond to help you succeed.

I am still growing my DSM business and always looking for opportunities. From one business owner to another, you must look for opportunities to grow. For other business owners, follow your dream, and don’t second guess or let any negativity hold you back. If you’ve got a passion for what you do, go for it. It doesn’t matter when you start your business if you have the passion for it because you must be passionate and resilient to be successful and build your business. In my own business, I’ve had the opportunity to help people live their best lives and help them find a new beginning regardless of age, ability or circumstance. For one client who was borderline diabetic, the training allowed him to lose 60 pounds and change his life. He continued training for six years and wasn’t diabetic. I started training another client after her son died by suicide. The training not only helped her physically but also emotionally as well.

Building my business in the region has meant that I can live my passion every day and provide a service and create a community. Premier Personal Training is a flexible training option that fits into my client’s schedule and building my business in DSM has allowed me to find resources and mentors to strengthen my business.
