DSM Intern Connection

The DSM Intern Connection event series returned to Greater Des Moines in summer 2026, offering interns and college students opportunities to connect with community leaders, grow their professional networks and experience what makes Greater Des Moines a great place to live and work. The program welcomed a record 517 interns in 2025, highlighting strong demand from both employers and students and nearly 90% of participants say they would accept a job in Greater Des Moines if offered.

Fall Programing

This fall, the Greater Des Moines Partnership is expanding the DSM Intern Connection with two virtual sessions designed to help college students and young professionals prepare for the workforce.

Join this virtual session on Tuesday, Sept. 15 to hear from recruiters and leaders across Greater Des Moines about what they look for in candidates, what to expect during the hiring process and how to confidently prepare for your career.

Starting your first professional job can feel overwhelming. From workplace attire and office etiquette to professional communication, this virtual session on Thursday, Nov. 12 will help you navigate the unwritten rules of the workplace with confidence.

In addition to the core sessions, participants were invited to attend the I-Cubs and Chamber Night Tailgate on June 23, a bonus networking opportunity designed to help interns build connections in a more informal setting.

Program Highlights 

  • Built connections with fellow interns, young professionals and regional leaders.
  • Developed essential skills to support a successful transition from college to career.
  • Gained insight into career pathways and opportunities in Greater Des Moines.
  • Participants who attended at least three core sessions received a Community Leadership Certificate and were invited to the Executive Luncheon.
  • All events were free to attend.
