Shop Local At The Last Downtown Farmers' Market Of The Year

December 8, 2014

The Downtown Community Alliance will hold the final Downtown Winter Farmers’ Market on Friday, Dec. 12 and Saturday, Dec. 13 from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. The Winter Farmers’ Market will be located at Capital Square at 400 Locust in addition to Kaleidoscope Mall at 555 Walnut Street in Downtown Des Moines; both buildings are connected via skywalk.

“Experience all the Winter Market has to offer by visiting both Capital Square and Kaleidoscope locations,” advises Kelly Foss, director of the Downtown Farmers’ Market. “The Winter Market will make shopping for your holiday meals and parties enjoyable, plus it’s a perfect place to find that unique gift for someone on your list.”

The Winter Farmers’ Market features more than 130 vendors; shoppers can expect to find an abundance of products including locally produced honey, jams, salsa, wine, cheese, olive oils, noodles, breads, pies and cinnamon rolls. Farmers will be selling a variety of locally raised products including fresh eggs, beef, pork, poultry, holiday hams, salmon, tilapia and, of course, fresh Iowa produce. A variety of late season and greenhouse produce will be available including sweet potatoes, beets, carrots, winter squash, salad greens, apples and more. Market patrons will also find beautiful winter flowers, fresh cut Christmas trees and wreaths, handmade holiday ornaments and home decorations. Unique arts and crafts will also be available.

The Market will feature a wide variety of holiday activities for the entire family, including festive holiday entertainment and kids’ activities. This is the last Downtown Farmers’ Market of 2014; join us next year when the Market returns to Court Avenue in May.
