Des Moines' Downtown Farmers' Market Begins Fall Hours

October 4, 2018

DOWNTOWN DES MOINES, IOWA (Oct. 4, 2018) — The Downtown Farmers’ Market presented by UnityPoint Health – Des Moines will begin its October hours of 8 a.m. to Noon this Saturday, instead of its usual 7 a.m. start. The later start provides more daylight as vendors prepare their stands for the arrival of Market patrons.

Over the next four Saturdays in October, fall produce will be plentiful and will include sweet potatoes, butternut squash, beets, garlic, apples and fall-themed baked goods and treats such as caramel apples, apple cider, apple pie, pumpkins, fall mums, unique gourds, flowers and plants – and so much more.

“October is the perfect time to visit the Downtown Farmers’ Market to pick up fresh fall produce,” said Downtown Farmers’ Market Director Kelly Foss. “From pumpkins to apples, fall mums to unique gourds and fall-themed baked goods, The Market offers a great way to sample and celebrate the season.”

To get into the Halloween spirit, during the final Market on Oct. 27, patrons are encouraged to dress in fun costumes. Bring the kids to enjoy treats handed out by Market sponsors and vendors.

The Downtown Farmers’ Market, produced by the Greater Des Moines Partnership, supports nearly 300 farmers, growers and artisan food entrepreneurs from more than 50 Iowa counties.
