Greater Des Moines Partnership Launches Internship Toolkit

January 20, 2016

The Greater Des Moines Partnership has launched a new internship toolkit: Internships 101. The free, online guide provides employers with tools to successfully implement an internship program within their organizations.

The online guide walks through key areas of implementation, beginning with establishing a plan, recruiting and hiring, and management tips. Also included are resources such as a sample job description, local college and university contacts, sample interview questions and legal considerations.

“We are very pleased to launch Internships 101,” said Mary Bontrager, Executive Vice President of Workforce Development/Education. “We know this will be a valuable guide for businesses of all sizes, as internships are now a key component to effective talent recruitment strategies.”

“Talent attraction and retention is a top priority for The Partnership,” said Jay Byers, CEO of the Greater Des Moines Partnership. “Accordingly, increasing the number of internships in Central Iowa is an important part of our talent strategy. Internships are important to employers as well as to the students taking part in them. Students gain valuable ‘real-life’ experience, while businesses can gain a competitive edge in recruiting and marketing themselves as prospective employers.”
