Economic Development Momentum: Meredith Corporation, Accelerated Ag Technologies, StemBox, Holmes Murphy

A number of economic development projects have recently advanced in Greater Des Moines (DSM).

Meredith Corporation

Meredith Corporation announced plans to remodel its DSM headquarters to accommodate growth. The company recently acquired Time, Inc., and plans to relocate positions from Time’s New York City headquarters to DSM and hire new staff to fill these positions. This $20.6 million capital investment has been awarded High Quality Jobs tax benefits from the Iowa Economic Development Authority (IEDA). The project is expected to create 41 high-paying jobs.

Accelerated Ag Technologies LLC

Accelerated Ag Technologies LLC (AAT) has been awarded a $300,000 loan from the Iowa Innovation Acceleration Fund from IEDA to refine its product and develop intellectual property for its technology called PowerPollenSM. AAT is a biotechnology startup based in Ankeny that was formed in March 2015. AAT has developed and has patents pending for several biotechnology processes to enhance plant pollination. The company’s mission is to increase agriculture productivity by increasing the reliability of the world’s seed and grain supply.

StemBox Inc.

StemBox Inc. has been awarded a $25,000 Proof of Commercial Relevance loan to plan for market planning and entry. StemBox, based in Des Moines, puts together fun and exciting science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) experiment kits for children and sends them to customers across the country. The company aims to help girls ages 7 – 12 better understand science at a young age.

Holmes Murphy & Associates

Holmes Murphy & Associates has completed its move to Waukee. The move into the 93,740-square-foot office building will help the company keep up with continued growth and the addition of employees. The company is located in Kettlestone, a 1,500-acre mixed-use development.
