Economic Development Momentum: Chamness Biodegradables Relocates All Operations to DSM USA, ProbioFerm Facility Expansion, Michael Foods Groundbreaking

Chamness Biodegradeables

A California manufacturer of 100 percent biodegradable and compostable serve-ware and packaging is relocating all company operations to DSM. Chamness Biodegradables is moving from Camarillo, Calif and will lease a 27,500 square-foot facility in Ankeny. The relocation will create more than 35 new jobs in the next three years, including research and development, advanced manufacturing, sales and product engineering positions. Access to DSM’s talented workforce was stated as a driver behind the move.

ProbioFerm

ProbioFerm, a major supplier of high-quality beneficial bacteria utilized in nutritional supplements and custom blends, is investing nearly $6 million toward a new 9,000-square-foot manufacturing and warehouse facility in DSM. Based in Urbandale’s Urban Loop, the expansion is expected to create three jobs. The announcement follows on the heels of a 2015 development that included a 22,000-square-foot expansion of its manufacturing and warehouse operations.

Michael Foods

Michael Foods has broken ground for its new $85 million manufacturing facility in Norwalk. The facility is expected to create more than 150 jobs and will be one of the largest industrial projects to come to Iowa.
