Corporate Games Concludes with Awards Presentation at State Fair

August 18, 2016

Winners of the inaugural Des Moines Corporate Games (DMCG) will be recognized on the Grand Concourse at the Iowa State Fair Friday, Aug. 19 at Noon. The large, medium and small division winners were Farm Bureau Financial Services, Berkley Technology Services and Fidelity and Guaranty Life, respectively.

More than 30 Greater Des Moines (DSM) companies and 1,300 employees competed in 21 sports and events over the past two months as part of the Corporate Games.

Company pride, corporate wellness and teamwork were all benefits for companies participating in the Des Moines Corporate Games.

Wesley Franklin, Wellness Specialist for Farm Bureau Financial Services, believes the Corporate Games is a great way to build up comradery among employees outside the office. Farm Bureau Financial has multiple departments within their office.

Franklin noted that “this program enhanced communication and networking between employees in different departments, especially when employees participated in team sports where they had never met one of their teammates before the night of the event.”

While company pride and teamwork were at the heart of the Corporate Games, promoting general physical fitness was a key component of the program as well.

Dani Breon, Software Developer for Berkley Technology Services, competed in the most events of any DMCG participant. She participated in twelve sports and events ranging from non-competitive such as the Iowa Games Mud Run all the way to competitive, such as Kickball.

Breon described the Corporate Games as a “great opportunity for herself and her co-workers to be active in DSM while experiencing healthy competition against employees from other companies”.

The Des Moines Corporate Games is a project of the Iowa Sports Foundation and the Greater Des Moines Partnership.  Other DSM partners included area parks and recreation departments and the YMCA of Greater Des Moines.
