Americans for the Arts Showcases Greater Des Moines as a Rising Example of Finding Success by Partnering with the Arts

July 1, 2015

Americans for the Arts, the nation’s leading nonprofit organization for advancing the arts and arts education, launched an essay series today to provide an insider look at how some of the most prominent businesses and communities in America profited by partnering with the arts. Greater Des Moines (DSM) is featured in the first essay focused on recruiting and retaining talent.

The Recruit and Retain Talent essay explains how arts partnerships between businesses and the arts can boost the appeal of companies and communities in ways that can make it easier to attract and retain the talent needed to achieve success.  It states, “If you’re looking for an example of a city where companies have banded together to embrace the idea of using arts and culture to attract and retain talent — particularly young talent — you need to look no further than Des Moines.”

Local business leaders from Kemin Industries, Principal Financial Group, EMC Insurance Companies, Des Moines Social Club, DuPont Pioneer, Bravo, Des Moines Arts Center and the Greater Des Moines Partnership share stories in the essay of how they engage with the arts to help make their companies and the community more attractive to current and future employees by partnering with the arts organizations to create a vibrant cultural scene.

“There is a strong passion for the arts among a broad swath of the business community who are committed to working hand-in-hand to ensure that Greater Des Moines has a best-in-class arts scene,” says Jay Byers, Greater Des Moines Partnership CEO. “It is gratifying to see Central Iowa being recognized as a leader in attracting and retaining talent in the essay from Americans for the Arts.”

With insights culled from some of the most celebrated business leaders in the United States, the essays, which will be released throughout 2015 and 2016, provide real-world examples of how partnering with the arts can help businesses of all sizes and industries tell their story, recruit talent, advance corporate objectives, develop a wider consumer-base, engage employees and build stronger communities.

The Recruit and Retain Talent essay is available online at bit.ly/pARTnership.  All of the essays will be accessible on pARTnershipMovement.org, which also features partnership news updates, a database of arts organizations searchable by location, the latest business-arts research and more. The site also offers arts organizations the tools they need to more effectively partner with businesses.
