Des Moines Engineer Becomes Iowa's First LEED Fellow

October 2, 2014

Scott Bowman, PE, LEED AP, has been named a 2014 LEED Fellow by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC). He is the first Iowan to achieve the distinction, which recognizes exceptional contributions to the green building community and significant achievements among LEED Professionals..

Bowman recently retired as a principal and corporate sustainability leader after 25 years with KJWW Engineering Consultants, Des Moines, where he was instrumental in 100-plus LEED projects and the company’s rise to be among ENR’s 100 Greenest Design Firms.

“The 2014 LEED Fellows are utilizing their extensive knowledge and experience in green building to engage their colleagues, clients and communities to create a better built environment throughout the world,” said Rick Fedrizzi, president, CEO and founding chair, USGBC. “We recognize Scott Bowman’s commitment to LEED and celebrate his individual achievements.”

LEED Fellows are nominated by their peers, undergo an extensive portfolio review, must have at least 10 years of experience in the green building industry and hold a LEED AP with specialty credential, among other requirements. The evaluation process is carried out by the LEED Fellow Evaluation Committee and supported by the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI).

"I am incredibly honored to have been named a LEED Fellow,” said Bowman. “The focus of my career took a different direction when I was introduced to USGBC and LEED, both of which aligned with my personal beliefs and engineering practice to increase energy efficiency in buildings. I have embraced and encouraged sustainability ever since."

Bowman continues to advise KJWW on sustainability issues, and has launched his own consultancy, Integrated Ideas + Energy Advisors, LLC (ideabuildworks.com). He and this year’s other 47 LEED Fellows will be recognized in October at the Greenbuild International Conference and Expo in New Orleans.
