This summer, the City of Bondurant and Bondurant Chamber of Commerce are bringing the community together for a number of events. Check out these five things that you don’t want to miss in Bondurant.

Porch Swings and Fireflies Art Display

Gateway Park, 1499 Grant St S.
Located in Gateway Park, the Porch Swings and Fireflies Art Display is a permanent art display designed by Dennis Reynolds and TJ Moberg. The display took three years of design and construction and includes nine swings suspended from large timbers with each bench showcasing the history of Bondurant. The art feature also offers a one-of-a-kind interactive art piece accessible by multiple modes of transportation. The Porch Swings and Fireflies Art Display was inspired by twelve Bondurant High School senior art students and will be a lasting memorial to the young artists and brings a sense of pride to the community. In 2018 the Porch Swings and Fireflies Art Exhibit was recognized with an All-Star Community Award!

 

Bondurant, Iowa Swings

This unique art display features nine porch swings suspended from large timbers and showcases history of Bondurant, a lighted “Bondurant” sign and lighted flagpole, the post trusses were from the American Legion shelter building formerly on the site, lighted mason jars and twinkling lights in the trees surrounding the display are intended to mimic a firefly.

Bus Barn Mural, “Taking Off,” 2020

Chichaqua Valley Trail
The mural, “Taking Off,” is located along the Chichaque trail and is a testimony to the wonderful relationship between the Bondurant-Farrar Community School District art students with the entire Bondurant community. The design concept was created by a team of Bondurant-Farrar high School art students, who in partnership with the Bondurant Community Foundation and the City of Bondurant, installed the local mural along a major multi-use recreational trail system. The 108-foot-long and 10-foot-tall mural is visible along the Chichaque Valley Trail and from Grant Street in Bondurant.

City Park Mural, “Change in Seasons,” 2021

In 2021, Chris Vance worked with the Bondurant-Farrar High School art program to create the mural “Change in Seasons,” located at the Bondurant City Park parking lot in downtown Bondurant. The mural was created from an old, run down fence that was fixed up and transformed into a vibrant and fun piece of art for the community to enjoy.

Bondurant Farmers’ Market

Bondurant City Park, 201 Main St. SE
The Bondurant Farmers’ Market is a great way to spend an evening in Greater Des Moines (DSM). Enjoy live music, fresh produce, tasty treats and baked goods and more on Wednesday evenings from 6 to 8 p.m. through Wednesday, October 25 in downtown Bondurant.
