Downtown Farmers' Market to Host Virtual Market Meet-Ups
GREATER DES MOINES, IA (April 28, 2020) – The Downtown Farmers’ Market presented by UnityPoint Health — Des Moines will kick off the season virtually this Saturday, May 2. The Market is partnering with DSM TV to host a live hour-long virtual Market Meet-Up beginning at 8 a.m. on the Downtown Farmers’ Market Facebook page. This will happen in place of the outdoor market that was previously scheduled prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Saturday Morning Virtual Market Meet-Up embraces interactive social media that will highlight vendors, products and sponsors. Programming elements will include details on how to purchase vendor products, in-season cooking demos and recipes, and live musicians and entertainment. Virtual market-goers will have the opportunity to learn about ways to connect with Downtown Farmers’ Market vendors online, including leveraging a local food co-op to access fresh Market products.
The Market Meet-Up will kick off with a virtual Opening Bell Ceremony followed by a virtual toast to vendors and shoppers. All elements of the production will be carried out while practicing social distancing.

The Saturday Morning Virtual Market Meet-Up is scheduled for the next three Saturdays: May 2, May 9 and May 16. The Market will continue to evaluate next steps for hosting an outdoor market by following local, state and federal public health guidelines.
