During the summer months, Downtown Des Moines (DSM) workers can meet up for weekly Out to Lunch experiences where they can listen to live music, socialize with coworkers and grab lunch from one of six to eight local food vendors — Karam’s Grill, Roadside Tacos and Chamo, to name a few! — within a walkable distance of their offices.

Bringing together an estimated 80,000 Downtown employees, entertainment and good food not only gets people back together in Downtown DSM to enjoy the summer weather, but allows them to support nearby businesses, too. Past locations have included Cowles Commons, People’s Plaza at the Iowa State Capitol Complex and more. In 2023, Out to Lunch acts included Sharane Calister, Royce Johns, Lani, Patricia Holly, Bruce Day and Ace Jones. This free event continues to be a highlight of the workweek each Wednesday throughout the summer.
