This week is packed with live music, local flavor and unique experiences that blend creativity, community and a whole lot of summer charm. Whether you’re grooving to jazz, sipping a stein under the trees, diving into architectural history or just easing into the weekend with a burrito from the Farmers’ Market, there’s no shortage of reasons to get out and explore. From chill patio hangs to unforgettable concerts and one-of-a-kind tours, the second week of August is bringing the energy. Friday, Aug. 8, 2025 | Wooly’s 

If your ideal summer night includes beachy vibes, jam-band grooves and a cold drink in hand, you’re going to love Mihali at Wooly’s. Known for his laid-back sound and positive energy, Mihali brings the Before the Dream Tour to Downtown DSM for one night only, with local favorite Andrew Hoyt opening the show. Doors open at 6 p.m., music kicks off at 7 p.m. It’s an all-ages show, so bring your crew and soak in the tunes as the weekend gets rolling. This one’s sure to be a feel-good Friday night. 

Architecture on the Move Tour 

Friday, Aug. 8, 2025 | Downtown Des Moines 

Calling all history buffs, architecture nerds and curious locals — this is the walking tour for you. Led by pros from the Iowa Architectural Foundation, the Architecture on the Move tour gives you a whole new perspective on Downtown DSM. Learn the stories behind iconic buildings, hidden design details and historic gems. There are four different routes to choose from, each led by an architect or historian for a one-of-a-kind experience. Tours start at 5:30 p.m. and last about 90 minutes, covering around 14 blocks — so wear your comfy shoes. It’s $20 and well worth it to support a great cause and see your city in a brand-new light. 

Des Moines Biergarten 

Friday, Aug. 8 – Sunday, Aug. 10 + Wednesday, Aug. 13 – Thursday, Aug. 14, 2025 | Water Works Park 

The shaded groves of Water Works Park are calling! Des Moines Biergarten is open Wednesdays through Sundays and offers a laid-back escape with a Bavarian twist. Sip local and German brews, munch on bratwursts and currywurst fries and kick back under the trees with live music, food trucks and yard games. This Friday don’t miss Fridays in the Park from 5-9 p.m., featuring local food trucks offering savory bites and sweet treats. Or swing by Sunday from 1-4 p.m. for Local Bands, Brews & Bikes with live tunes by Pullin’ Strings. Bring your pup, your pals and your best lawn chair — summer is not over yet! 

Des Moines’ Downtown Farmers’ Market 

Saturday, Aug. 9, 2025 | Historic Court District 

Let’s be real — there’s no better way to kick off a Saturday than with a stroll through the Downtown Farmers’ Market. The smells? Heavenly. The vibes? Immaculate. From sunrise breakfast burritos to locally grown produce, handmade goods, flowers and live music, this is the weekend scene everyone talks about. Whether you’re shopping for dinner or just people-watching with a cold brew in hand, Court Avenue is alive with summer energy. The market runs 7 a.m. to Noon, rain or shine, and features more than 300 vendors from across Iowa. Come hungry. Leave inspired. 

While you’re Downtown for the Farmers’ Market, stop by The Kirkwood for the Art Show & Sale, this Saturday, Aug. 9 from 8 a.m. – Noon! 

Jazz on The House with Trombonist & Composer Levi Temple & Co. 

Thursday, Aug. 14, 2025 | Noce 

Noce’s Thursday night Jazz on the House series is a Downtown DSM hidden gem. No cover, all-night happy hour and some of the best jazz musicians in the region? Count us in. This week, catch Levi Temple & Co. delivering smooth trombone melodies and original compositions that’ll have your toes tapping in no time. Doors open at 6 p.m. and music goes until 10 p.m. Come early, snag a cozy seat and enjoy drink specials like $5 green tea shots, $6 wells, $7 house wine and $8 cocktails. Noce’s classy-meets-casual vibe makes it perfect for date night or just unwinding midweek.
