Iowa’s tax-free weekend begins today and goes through Saturday, August 8. During this time, shoppers can save on sales tax for clothing and footwear (priced at less than $100 per item), both online and in person.

Historic East Village

Shopping in the Historic East Village district of Downtown DSM is the perfect place to kick off your tax-free weekend shopping. Find clothing for the whole family — from women’s apparel to Iowa-based t-shirts in this shopping district in the heart of the city.

Find even more clothing options in Historic Valley Junction in West Des Moines. Historic Valley Junction merges unique shops with a historic part of the region to create a popular hub for all ages.

Uptown Ankeny + The District

North of DSM, in the heart of Ankeny, you’ll find affordable clothes at Real Deals in Uptown Ankeny, as well as Purple Poppy Boutique and Grey Lotus in The District at Prairie Trail, Ankeny’s growing business and entertainment center.

Merle Hay Mall

The oldest shopping center in the state is open from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. for tax-free shopping. Boasting a number of clothing stores for kids that will help with back-to-school shopping, Merle Hay Mall is also home to its own in-house movie theater, Flix Brewhouse.

Jordan Creek Town Center

Jordan Creek Town Center is a hub for serious shoppers in West Des Moines. Since May, the mall has implemented a number of curbside pickup options, with participating retailers listed here. Start shopping now and order online Friday and Saturday for tax-free savings!

Outlets of Des Moines

Outlets of Des Moines will offer extended hours — 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday — for tax-free shopping days in 2020. The Altoona shopping district’s many apparel stores will also hold their own sales during the event. Note: The Uniform Outlet offers nursing scrubs and comfortable footwear for nurses, midwives and nursing students.

Town Squares

Like the outdoor shopping experience of the Outlets of Des Moines, town squares — from Newton to Indianola — offer a distinctive experience for shoppers. In nearby Pella, see Molengracht, a replicate of the Dutch Canal located in the city's downtown business area!
