Downtown DSM Workers, Residents Invited to 'Walk More. Connect More' at Cowles Commons on Oct. 6
GREATER DES MOINES, IA (Sept. 15, 2021) – The Iowa Healthiest State Initiative and the Greater Des Moines Partnership are inviting Downtown Des Moines (DSM) workers and residents to walk for 30 minutes and grab lunch on their route during the Healthiest State 11th Annual Walk on Wednesday, Oct. 6.
Downtown DSM workplaces and residents can register their walk on the Healthiest State Initiative website. Walkers are encouraged to stop by Cowles Commons between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. for free water and healthy lunch options from local food trucks (available for purchase). A brief program at Noon will include a speaker from The Partnership and statewide sponsor Delta Dental of Iowa.
“We are proud to support the Healthiest State Initiative’s efforts to encourage all Iowans to make healthy choices and live a healthy lifestyle,” said Tiffany Tauscheck, Chief Operations Officer at the Greater Des Moines Partnership. “This is an opportunity for workers and residents to enjoy a walk around Downtown on a fall day, support local food vendors and connect with each other and the Downtown community.”
Downtown walkers will join thousands of other Iowans who are participating in Healthiest State 11th Annual Walk events in their communities that day. The “Walk More. Connect More.” theme of the statewide event highlights the social benefits of walking that accompany the physical and mental health benefits.
Downtown employers are encouraged to support these efforts and can download a free Annual Walk Toolkit, including images, posters, a logo and a social media guide to promote the walk to employees and community members. Residents outside of Downtown who are working from home are also encouraged to sign up and walk in their neighborhood.
This Healthiest State Walk in Downtown DSM is part of The Partnership’s Glad You're Here | Love Downtown DSM series to encourage residents to explore Downtown DSM as more people begin to participate in Downtown activities and events.
