Downtown DSM Silent Disco Family-Friendly Street Party Encourages Locals to Get Out and Dance in Western Gateway Park
GREATER DES MOINES, IA (Oct. 4, 2021) – Get ready to dance the night away at the Downtown DSM Silent Disco on Friday, Oct. 15 from 7 – 11 p.m. The lawn and surrounding streets of Western Gateway Park will transform for one night of dancing and fun disco lighting under the glow of the Downtown Des Moines (DSM) city skyline.
“Downtown DSM has a vibrant nightlife scene that is filled with memorable local restaurants and outdoor recreation opportunities for all ages,” said Tiffany Tauscheck, Chief Operations Officer at The Partnership. “The Downtown DSM Silent Disco is designed for residents and visitors to experience Downtown in a new and different way this fall.”
The Silent Disco is an all-ages dance party that allows attendees to listen and dance to live music on their own terms. Instead of playing music through a traditional speaker system, several live songs will be played through the participants’ headphones. Each set of headphones is equipped with a dial that allows them to swipe through a set of three music stations. Each station is connected to one of the three live DJs' turntables. Participants can move seamlessly through the stations throughout the night, creating their own unique playlist of songs. The Silent Disco is also a great option for those with sensory and hearing sensitivities, as each participant also has another dial that allows them to control their own volume as they dance.
Attendees can rent silent disco headphones throughout the duration of the event, free of charge, by exchanging a photo ID. Families can exchange one form of ID for multiple headphones. All programming activities and participation at the event are free thanks to the event sponsor MidAmerican Energy Company.
Sweet treats will also be available for purchase from a new local Downtown business, Dough Crazy, which will sell edible cookie dough on-site for the duration of the event.
