Optik Interactive Forms

Friday, May 2 – Monday, May 26, 2025 | Cowles Commons
This isn’t your average art exhibit. Optik is a trippy, hands-on installation that’s all about play, perspective and light. And it’s right in the middle of Cowles Commons. Picture 20 six-foot-tall gyroscope-style sculptures you can spin, twist and explore. They reflect sunlight by day and glow with mesmerizing colors at night, while also creating unique sounds with each rotation. Basically, it’s like stepping into a giant, colorful music box made for adults (and curious kids too). Come by anytime — it’s free, it’s interactive and it’s the perfect mix of selfie-worthy and soul-stirring. You’ll leave seeing Downtown DSM (and maybe the world) a little differently.
