Summers in Downtown Des Moines (DSM) are so refreshing, especially with a freshly squeezed lemonade in-hand! Taking place over the next week, here’s a look at five can’t-miss events coming soon to Downtown DSM:

Iowa Cubs

Tuesday, Aug. 15 – Sunday, Aug. 20 | Principal Park
Continuing into the weekend, the Iowa Cubs are taking on the Louisville Bats! Each game brings a whole new set of specials, highlights and promotions. Friday, the game will be played by the Iowa Caucuses (named in lieu of the Iowa Cubs). And stick around after the final inning for fireworks over the Downtown Des Moines skyline, presented by Mediacom.

Squeeze the Day

Friday, Aug. 18 | 222 E. 3rd St., Des Moines
Girls Rock! Des Moines musicians will be rocking the lot with live music and specials from nearby businesses including the Iowa Taproom and Molly’s, including the opportunity to enjoy some freshly squeezed, ice-cold lemonade. GR!DSM is a music program designed to empower, encourage and inspire cis-gender girls and gender-expansive individuals from around the DSM region. Be sure to BYO lawn chair!

DSM Restaurant Week

Friday, Aug. 18 – Sunday, Aug. 27 | Various Restaurants
It’s back again! This well-loved-by-locals event provides the perfect excuse to try out a unique dish or a new restaurant from their bucket list. Each participating restaurant offers a menu priced between $40 and $80 for dinner, and lunches are $15 to $25 per meal. Although this event takes place at restaurants throughout the region, quite a few Downtown Des Moines restaurants are among the lineup, including Alba, Allora Café, Aposto, Bar Nico, Big Grove Brewery (patio area pictured below), Mash + MARROW, Harbinger, HoQ Restaurant, Republic on Grand, Tupelo Honey and several more!

Des Moines’ Downtown Farmers’ Market

Saturdays, Now - Oct. 28 | Historic Court District
Continuing through October, each Saturday from 7 a.m. to Noon the Downtown Farmers’ Market takes over the Historic Court District with a diverse lineup of local farmers, producers and other vendors. Haven’t visited in a while? Stop by The Market’s Spark DSM Business Incubator, which supports underrepresented startups and small businesses each week. This Saturday, see the Kansas City Chiefs Lombardi Trophy and celebrate their Super Bowl LVII win with the Chiefs mascot and cheerleaders. Sunday, Aug. 20 | Water Works Park
This celebration of mind, body and spirit includes opportunities to connect with nature, enjoy running, yoga, live music, a community picnic and a moment of gratitude. The event supports the charity Above + Beyond Cancer, whose mission is to “elevate the lives of those touched by cancer, to create a healthier world.”
