YARO DANCE COMPANY TO PERFORM THE UGLY DUCKLING AND CARNIVAL OF THE ANIMALS AT HOYT SHERMAN PLACE ON SEPT. 9TH DES MOINES, IOWA — On September 9, 2018, at 5:30 p.m., dancers from the Des Moines metro area, ranging in age from 11- to 18-years old, will perform The Ugly Duckling and Carnival of the Animals, a fun, family-oriented ballet at Hoyt Sherman Place, 1501 Woodland Ave., Des Moines. The public is invited to this evening of theatrical ballet, featuring dancers from Yaro Dance Company, a nonprofit, Des Moines metro-based youth ballet company which gives young dancers the chance to prepare for a professional career in dance and provides high quality fine arts entertainment for the entire community. The Ugly Duckling, based on the famous Hans Christian Andersen fairytale will be presented during the first half of the production. This 30-minute ballet tells the story of a lonely, fed-up duckling who comes to learn that she was beautiful all along. During the second half of the show, the dancers will present The Carnival of the Animals, a humorous musical suite of fourteen movements by the French Romantic composer Camille Saint-Saëns. Each of the music's 14 movements represents a different animal, including a lion, donkey, and elephant, as well as fossils, an aquarium, an aviary and Saint-Saëns' little joke about pianists-possibly the most dangerous animal of them all. "This event is the perfect opportunity for the whole family to enjoy live ballet, music and theatre," says Ami Yaro, director of Yaro Dance Company.
