Join Kassie Nelson and take a deep dive into the relationship between Sioux City, its residents and the steamboat trade. Highlighting the years from 1868 to 1873 emphasizes the unique nature of this relationship during a time when Sioux City and the steamboat trade were in transition. Image: in 1872, the steamboat Nellie Peck competed against the Far West in a 2,800-mile race from Sioux City to Fort Benton and return. The Far West won.
