Event Information

You are standing on ceded land, aboriginal to the Ioway people. Recognizing the historic and contemporary colonization and the forgotten genocide of Indigenous peoples in America is a vital element in guiding our shared future. We must respect the inherent sovereignty of the federally recognized tribes of modern day Iowa. Through the work of Native American contemporary artists, this exhibition invites you to take a moment to consider the many legacies of assimilation, migration, and persistence that have endured for centuries. The many barriers that threaten the Native American people will be revealed through art and confront our responsibility to remove them. The power of art can make visible those things that have often been invisible.
