Description Make your reservations for architect-guided walking tours of downtown Des Moines! These tours, sponsored by Kum & Go, provide an opportunity for local residents and visitors alike to appreciate the rich architectural heritage of Iowa's capital city. May, July, August and September tours have the choice of 4 separate routes - E N S W. The June 7 tour is Western Gateway only. Tours cover both contemporary and historic architecture. You will learn about architectural detail, style and elements, along with intriguing facts and the historical significance of the buildings that shape the downtown skyline. All tours except June 7 include beverages and snacks starting at 5 PM, prior to setting out on the tours at 5:30 PM. With one exception (June 7), tours leave from the Iowa Center for Architecture, 400 Locust Street, Suite 100, in Capital Square. The special June 7 Western Gateway tour leaves from Krause Gateway Center lobby at 1459 Grand Avenue. Check in is between 5 and 5:30 PM. A Skywalk tour will be offered in case of inclement weather including rain and excessive heat. No refunds, but if you alert us in advance that you are unable to attend, you will be re-scheduled for another date. Or you may also give your ticket to someone else. Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable shoes and weather-appropriate clothing. FAQs Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event? No, as long as children are not disruptive, we encourage everyone to enjoy architecture! What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event? City parking ramp at 4th and Grand. Metered street parking is usually available close by. What can I bring into the event? Comfy shoes, umbrella if sprinkling, casual.
