Shop Local At The Last Downtown Farmers' Market Of 2013

December 5, 2013

The Downtown Community Alliance will hold the final Downtown Winter Farmers’ Market presented by UnityPoint Health – Des Moines on Friday, December 13 from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. and Saturday, December 14 from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. New for 2013, the Winter Farmers’ Market has expanded into Kaleidoscope Mall at 555 Walnut Street in addition to Capital Square at 400 Locust in Downtown Des Moines; both buildings are connected via skywalk.

“The Winter Farmers’ Market is a great place to shop for that hard to buy for person on your list. Local food makes a great gift and we have some of the most talented artists selling their products at our market,” explains Kelly Foss, director of the Downtown Farmers’ Market. “Our additional space at Kaleidoscope Mall has allowed us to add more vendors and more room for shopping.”

The Winter Farmers’ Market has everything you need for holiday meals, parties and gift giving. With more than 120 vendors, shoppers can expect to find an abundance of products including locally produced honey, jams, salsa, wine, cheese, olive oils, noodles, breads, pies and cinnamon rolls. Farmers will be selling a variety of locally raised products including fresh eggs, beef, pork, poultry, holiday hams, tilapia and, of course, fresh Iowa produce. A variety of late season and greenhouse produce will be available including sweet potatoes, beets, carrots, winter squash, salad greens, apples and more. Market patrons will also find beautiful winter flowers, fresh cut Christmas trees and wreaths, handmade holiday ornaments and home decorations. Unique arts and crafts will also be available.

The Market will feature a wide variety of holiday activities for the entire family, including festive holiday entertainment and kids’ activities. This is the last Downtown Farmers’ Market of 2013; join us next year when The Market returns to Court Avenue in May.
