Game Changer Scholars Program Challenges Status Quo

Game Changer Scholars Program

March 1, 2022

We’re all about “changing the game” at Athene — challenging the status quo to create a retirement savings industry, workplace and community that is better and brighter for everyone.

Our high-performing culture is focused on inspiring employees to take positive action. They embody our core company values of making things happen, acting like owners, engaging actively and believing in their co-workers.

While we foster this game-changing culture in our workplace, we also want to inspire this attitude in the communities we serve — especially in our home state. As a company, Athene is dedicated to creating positive change in Iowa communities through a variety of education and diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives.

Driven to Do More

Inspired to build on our long-standing commitment to education, the Athene USA Charitable Foundation established a Game Changers Scholars program in Greater Des Moines (DSM) in 2021. Now in its second year, the program is designed to support students with financial needs so they can reach their educational goals.

This year’s program will award $80,000 through 40 individual scholarships, twice as much as last year. Significantly expanding the program’s impact and reach is a clear example of how Athene is deeply committed to investing in Iowa’s young people and closing the education gap among underserved communities.

The Game Changer Scholars program is administered by Scholarship America and selection is based on multiple criteria. To be eligible, applicants must reside in Iowa and attend or plan to attend college or university in the state.

Making this scholarship opportunity available to Iowa’s student population aligns with our long-standing vision to support and develop the state’s future workforce. We believe bringing diverse experiences, perspectives and backgrounds into higher education will lead to better innovation and representation.

We are accepting applications now until Tuesday, April 5. Find more details on the program and meet our inaugural class of 20 recipients on our website.
