Free Skate to Those Who Give at Brenton Skating Plaza

The annual Day of Giving hosted by Brenton Skating Plaza is a great example of how Amerigroup can live its mission to improve lives and communities. This community-building event is a meaningful partnership to us because it harnesses the generosity of Iowans and encourages families to get out and be active.

The annual Day of Giving offers free admission to Brenton Skating Plaza and free skate rental with the donation of gently used warm clothing for Iowans in need. In addition, the Iowa Wild will offer free admission to a home game. For young people, it’s a fun day off school and encourages them to become involved in service to our Greater Des Moines (DSM) community.

A Tradition of Giving

Every winter our schools, churches and not-for-profit organizations work to fill requests for clothing to help our neighbors in need. When Iowans help by donating gently used hats, mittens and gloves or other items like new socks and toiletries, there’s an immediate impact in the lives of members of our community. All donations are distributed to area shelters.

We’re grateful to join the Greater Des Moines Partnership, iHeartMedia, LifeServe, and Van and Bonnie in partnering to make the Day of Giving happen. Being a part of the growth of one of Iowa’s largest and most important industries while upholding the community values that draw people to DSM in the first place make this a very meaningful event.

Because we serve Iowans enrolled in the state’s Medicaid program, supporting community events like this is part of our mission. Amerigroup Iowa supports our members in other ways, including the “Healthy Rewards” program, where Amerigroup members can earn a one-time payment by getting a flu shot, undergoing breast and cervical cancer screenings, quitting smoking and completing well-baby visits.

This is just one event of hundreds that we support throughout the year in communities across Iowa. We look forward to joining with nonprofit organizations and Iowans everywhere to improve the lives and the health of the state we call home.
