February 17, 2022

The Greater Des Moines Partnership and the Marshalltown Area Chamber of Commerce co-hosted Representative Ashley Hinson (IA-01) at Alliant Energy Operations Center in Marshalltown to highlight the need for support for small businesses and talent for the Marshalltown region. As part of its advocacy efforts, The Partnership is working with all members of Iowa's Congressional delegation to plan events in Greater Des Moines (DSM) to discuss featured policy priorities for the region. This event focused on The Partnership’s Federal Featured Priority of Small Business Support inviting small business leaders to a roundtable discussion with Rep. Hinson.Featured Priority Tour

Small Business Roundtable Challenges

The roundtable was joined by a variety of industry leaders including Alliant Energy, Iowa Valley Community College, UnityPoint Health, Marshalltown Community School District, RACOM, City of Marshalltown, McGregors Furniture, Pinnacle Bank, McFarland Clinic and Marshall County. A common challenge we heard from our business leaders is the need to recruit and retain talent. From the lack of affordable and available child care to regulations affecting CDL requirements for public school bus drivers to the burnout among those working in the healthcare field. The lack of talent is affecting all industries and we will continue to work with our Congressional Delegation to find solutions.

Small Business Support

Rep. Hinson shared her understanding and support for our small business leaders and their issues as they affect businesses across the region and country. At the federal level, Rep. Hinson is focused on cutting government regulations and providing more educational opportunities by expanding Pell Grant opportunities for job upskilling.Rep. Hinson and Business Leaders

Rep. Hinson hopes to find middle ground solutions for immigration reform to also fix the talent shortage in our region. Thank you to Representative Hinson, The Partnership, Alliant Energy and our business leaders for this important discussion on small business support for the Marshalltown region.
