5 Reasons Why Moving to DSM USA Makes Sense

August 21, 2018

Greater Des Moines (DSM) has become one of the most up and coming cities in America and has found its sweet spot with young professionals. As someone who moved here two years ago, I know why I chose to move to Iowa’s state capital, but I took some time to talk to my peers at Shive-Hattery to get a glimpse into why others choose DSM as the place they call home. Their responses are below, and I can’t help but agree:

Access

You can get almost anywhere in DSM in 20 minutes or less. With recent studies cautioning against a commute longer than 30 minutes due to the drastic impacts to overall health and quality of life, being able to get from work to home in less than 20 minutes is not only a game changer, it’s something hard to rival in many other metropolitan areas. Even airport security lines seem to move more efficiently in DSM.

Amenities

Whether it’s a craving for craft beer on your summer bike ride, or checking outBiking in DSM USA the art scene, Downtown Farmers’ Market, live music or even testing your ax throwing abilities — DSM has something for you. If you can’t get to New York City, the Des Moines Civic Center brings Broadway to Walnut Street.

Affordability

For many millennials juggling student loan debt, being able to afford rent and make the most of the city they live in can be a stretch. Affordability is not only attractive to young professionals, it’s a necessity. DSM’s relative low cost of living means you can have it all here.

Versatility

Whether you’re married or single, have kids or not, prioritize access to great schools or a bustling night life, DSM has it all. It’s versatile seems unique. It’s not a place you go to when you’re ready to settle down, it’s a place you can call home wherever you find yourself at any time.

People

Iowa nice is real in DSM. The overwhelming discovery when moving here is the number of people willing to help. From personal to professional assistance, there is never a shortage of available resources offering a helping hand when you need it. Which makes this city feel just a little bit more like home.

For me, it’s a combination of all five things that drew me to DSM. I’ve found a fulfilling career, great friends and a city that is continuing to evolve. As soon as I think I’ve experienced it all, there’s something new right around the corner to see. I’ve been charmed by DSM since the day I moved here and I can’t wait to see what the future has in store.
