Phantom Fall Fest

Now – Sunday, Oct. 26, 2025 | Adventureland Park, Altoona
Adventureland’s Phantom Fall Fest transforms the park into a thrill-seekers’ paradise. By day, enjoy pumpkin painting, fall activities and your favorite rides. By night, the fog rolls in and the scares begin — five haunted houses, four scare zones and endless frights await. New this year: Spell Keeper, a haunted house that ups the fear factor to a whole new level. Whether you’re there for the adrenaline rush or just to soak up the Halloween vibes, this seasonal celebration is one of the highlights of fall. Daytime fun wraps at 5 p.m. before the haunting begins at 6 p.m.

Adventureland Park Phantom Fall Fest

Tour: Historic Jordan House Museum

Friday, Oct. 17 & Sunday, Oct. 19, 2025 | Jordan House Museum, West Des Moines
Step back in time with a tour of the Jordan House, one of Polk County’s oldest and most storied structures. Built by early settler James C. Jordan, this Victorian home played a significant role in West Des Moines’ history and is part of the National Underground Railroad Network to Freedom Program. Explore 16 beautifully preserved period rooms filled with local artifacts, learn about the Underground Railroad exhibit and get a glimpse into the region’s past. Tours take place Friday and Sunday at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., with advance tickets required. If you can’t make it this week, tours are offered every Friday and Sunday.

Kick back with good tunes and great brews as Rural Route returns to Reclaimed Rails. This local favorite is bringing their signature sound to the brewery for a laid-back Saturday night you won’t want to miss. Grab a pint (the Blood Orange Wheat is a fan favorite), settle into the cozy atmosphere and let the music set the tone for your weekend. Costumes? Check. Candy? Double check. A scenic lakefront trick-or-treat adventure? You got it. Pleasant Hill’s annual Trick or Treat Around the Lake invites families for a spooktacular evening where local businesses line the path handing out treats to kids of all ages. Stroll around Copper Creek Lake, soak in the crisp fall air and enjoy a festive community night out. It’s the perfect early Halloween warm-up before the big day arrives. Event runs from 5-7 p.m., so bring your candy bag and your best spooky (or silly!) costume.
