Michele Matt Q+A

What is your expertise?

I’ve been told I have the unique ability to understand and inspire all levels within an organization as a strategic planner, leadership coach, team builder and mentor.

How long have you been in your area of business?

Each year since 1984, I have inspired the attitudes and actions of thousands of people around the world through customized learning experiences, dynamic keynote presentations, strategic business planning and organizational development.

What is your session about?

“Staying Positive in a Negative World” continues to be my most requested program. Our world changes and so often people have a hard time adapting to new situations and expectations, both professionally and personally. I will share nuggets from my book Attitude: The Choice is Yours to inspire people to regain control of their life by gaining control of their attitudes.

Where did the idea for your session come from?

Emotional Intelligence (EQ) has been proven to be more of an indicator of success than our intelligence (IQ). Through my career, I’ve had the privilege and challenge to observe the good, the bad and the ugly attitudes in action. As Zig Ziglar said, “It’s your attitude, not your aptitude, that will determine your altitude in life.”

What can attendees expect to learn from attending your session?

Regardless of a person’s past or current situation, I teach people how to create joy in their journey and reach their fullest potential by:

  • Listening to self-talk (not social media)
  • Seeking comfort with change (uncommon oxymoron)
  • Clarifying their role and prioritizing their goals
  • Maintaining a positive outlook (even when things don’t look good)

What value will the content in your presentation bring to the small business community?

The pandemic and its aftermath have been a rough storm for all businesses to navigate. Rather than focus on day-to-day excuses, I teach people how to believe in the reason to try something different and the value of learning that change teaches us.

How does your content focus specifically on business activity in Greater Des Moines (DSM)?

All but three years when I lived in Phoenix, I’ve lived my entire adult life in DSM. I’m so proud to call it home and a place that has inspired and supported me to operate my small consulting business for over 30 years.

What are you most excited about when it comes to your upcoming presentation?

Paying it forward. I appreciate the opportunity to give back to the business community in hopes that the wisdom I share will be shared with others … at work and at home.

What is one piece of advice that you’d give to small business owners based on your experience?

Integrity – it’s never wrong to do the right thing. Even if it’s a difficult conversation, takes longer or costs more, people appreciate your honest response and effort.

How can interested attendees learn more about you?
