Stay 'In for Lunch' And Support Local Restaurants + Musicians

April 20, 2020

GREATER DES MOINES, IA (April 20, 2020) – The Greater Des Moines Partnership is launching a new lunchtime series called In for Lunch set to take place each Thursday through May 14. In for Lunch is a virtual event series with a unique twist to the popular Downtown Out to Lunch series that takes place each summer in Greater Des Moines (DSM). During In for Lunch, DSM residents can enjoy a bite to eat over the lunch hour — from the comfort of home while safely practicing social distancing — along with live tunes from local musicians.

In for Lunch will be held from Noon – 1 p.m. every Thursday beginning April 23 and continuing through May 14. The event is free and open to the public (virtually). The event series is sponsored by Des Moines Area Regional Transit Authority, Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines and MidAmerican Energy Company and is produced in partnership with Bravo Greater Des Moines, Capital Crossroads, Catch Des Moines, Des Moines Music Coalition and the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs.

Weekly featured musicians include:

  • Thursday, April 23: Pianopalooza
  • Thursday, April 30: The High Crest
  • Thursday, May 7: Sara Routh
  • Thursday, May 14: TBD

Residents can participate by tuning into local musicians playing live from the Downtown DSM Facebook page. Participants are encouraged to order takeout or delivery from a locally owned restaurant and share their support for local businesses using the #DSMlocalchallenge hashtag on social media.

Additionally, the Des Moines Music Coalition and The Partnership have released an In for Lunch Spotify playlist featuring songs from local artists, with new tracks being added each week.

In for Lunch is hosted through Des Moines' newest online streaming platform, DSMTV Live. DSMTV Live has been live streaming performances by local musicians and other artists since St. Patrick's Day 2020, and so far have broadcast over 30 performances from their Des Moines studio, utilizing multiple locations, multi camera views, multi track audio, and light and visual production.

Companies and organizations interested in sponsoring the series should contact Colleen Murphy.
