DSM Tutor Connection Creates Additional Resources to Connect Parents and Guardians to Tutors
GREATER DES MOINES, IA (Friday, Sept. 18, 2020) — The Greater Des Moines Partnership’s DSM Tutor Connection has created additional resources for tutors, parents and guardians to better utilize the platform including additional filtering options and helpful tip sheets.
Parents/Guardians can now filter the tutor search by grade, subject and location as well as see whether or not the tutor they want to connect with is accepting new students. Additionally, the new Tips for Parents/Guardians and the Tips for Tutors handouts include helpful guidance for setting up phone interviews, safety precautions for those who will be performing in-person tutoring sessions and more.
DSM Tutor Connection is a web-based platform that connects families seeking tutoring for their children with college students pursuing education degrees and others with an education background who are interested in providing tutoring services. The effort helps address the challenge that many parents/guardians face as their children participate in school from home during the COVID-19 pandemic. It also helps area college students in need of teaching experience during a time when many internships and other teaching opportunities are on hold.
Those interested in tutoring can sign up through an online platform, and parents/guardians interested in hiring a tutor can search the platform to connect with tutors who they think would be a good fit. Tutoring may be conducted online, in person or through pod-learning, depending upon the indicated preference of the tutor. Dates and times of sessions to be scheduled directly between the tutors and interested families. All tutors will be paid $15 per hour and families should coordinate the payment plan and method directly with their tutors.
