DSM Leaders Head to NYC in 2013

December 19, 2013

The Greater Des Moines Partnership joined Governor Terry Branstad and the Iowa Economic Development Authority on an economic development and prospective business tour to New York City, December 9-13. The trip’s mission was aimed at attracting potential businesses to Iowa, sustaining those who have a presence in the region, and promoting further development of numerous industries including insurance and financial services.

The Governor, Iowa Economic Development Director Debi Durham, Iowa Insurance Commissioner Nick Gerhart, and Partnership Staff, Gene Meyer and Mike Swesey, met with leaders of companies that have a presence in the state and those that are considering making an investment in the state. The Economic Development team met with companies headquartered in the New York area with operations in Greater Des Moines.

The Partnership and Governor’s office hosted a luncheon for approximately 20 companies in the Insurance & Financial industry, and held a dinner with 10 CEOs and executive level decision-makers. The Partnership’s Economic Development team identified three to five solid business growth opportunities from the trip.
