Briana Scurry to Speak in Greater Des Moines at Several Events The Community is Invited on May 11th at Principal Financial Group

April 17, 2023

DES MOINES, IA (MONDAY APRIL 17) - The Greater Des Moines community is excited to announce that Briana Scurry, two-time Olympic gold medalist and World Cup champion goalkeeper, will be speaking at several events in the area in the coming weeks. Scurry's appearances are part of a larger initiative to promote hope, resilience and the power of a team and building connections for diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Scurry, who made history as the first African American goalkeeper to earn a cap for the U.S. Women's National Team, will be sharing her inspiring story and insights on leadership and resilience at a variety of venues, including local schools, community centers, and sporting events.

"I'm thrilled to be coming to Greater Des Moines and to have the opportunity to share my experiences and connect with the community," said Scurry. "I believe that sports can be a powerful force for positive change, and I'm excited to be a part of this effort to inspire and empower young women and girls."

Scurry's appearances in the Greater Des Moines area are being organized by Krause Group and several supporting sponsors. The events will include interactive sessions, Q&A sessions, and opportunities for attendees to meet and network with Scurry.

“Briana Scurry’s story is one full of resilience and inspiration," said Heather Schott, Director of Diversity Equity & Inclusion for Krause Group. "In goal for the US WNT (Women’s National team), she made a key save propelling the US Women’s National soccer dominance and yet most of us hadn’t heard her name until recently. Without her leadership on the pitch, we wouldn’t have been able to bring home our first World Cup Win!”

The community is invited to attend the free public event on May 11th held at Principal Financial Group, 711 High Street in Des Moines, where Scurry will be sharing her story of overcoming obstacles. This community event is made possible by Presenting Sponsors: Principal, Krause Group, and Can Play; Partner Sponsors: Greater Des Moines Partnership, Wellmark, City of West Des Moines, Holmes Murphy; and Ally Sponsors: Green State, Drake, West Des Moines Chamber of Commerce, and Athene.

"We are honored to have Briana Scurry as our keynote speaker for this event and to bring her inspiring message to the Greater Des Moines community," said Kyle Krause, Chairman and CEO of Krause Group. "Her story is a testament to the power of determination and perseverance, and we believe that her insights will be valuable to everyone who attends."

In addition to the May 11th public event, several other events will be held around the community that are by invitation only for students, health professionals, coaches, and trainers. Scurry will also be onsite for the Des Moines Menace game Saturday, May 13th at 7:00pm at Valley Stadium in West Des Moines.
