The Partnership's National Awards Add to DSM USA's Momentum

June 4, 2019

Last week, the Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives (ACCE) held its awards judging for the Communications Excellence awards. More than 160 award submissions were sent in from Chambers of Commerce across the country. I had the unique experience of serving as a judge along with representatives from the Chattanooga Chamber of Commerce, Indy Chamber, Frederick County Chamber of Commerce, Grand Rapids Area Chamber of Commerce and St. Louis Regional Chamber.

Awards of Excellence

These award submissions represented the best of the best in communications and marketing projects from Chambers at all budget levels. With more than 160 submissions, a winning entry has to stand out. The Partnership is grateful to bring home two Awards of Excellence. We were among just a handful of Chambers nationally to win Awards of Excellence in each category. (Judges were not allowed to judge their own Chamber’s awards submissions, so rest assured the process was fair.)

Inclusive Economic Development

The “I’m Up” video performed by local artist Will Keeps was a winner in the Digital category. The Partnership worked with South Sider Studios on this video, which was shown at our Annual Dinner in January. The video shows that to truly rise as a region, we must rise together as one community and embrace inclusive economic development. It features appearances from a number of business, community and elected leaders including Governor Kim Reynolds.

The Partnership’s Quarterly Board Report was a winner in the Publications category. This report is shared with The Partnership’s Board at each quarterly meeting and include a comprehensive look at each area of work in the organization. The Board Report is a key tool to keep the Board informed. We also repurpose these reports to share with our Investors twice per year.

The Partnership on a National Level

These national awards show that our organization’s work is best in class. Greater Des Moines (DSM) has a reputation as a fast-growing region experiencing a lot of momentum. We strive to do work every day that carries that momentum forward through collaboration with partners throughout the region.

One extra benefit of judging these awards for other Chambers and regional organizations is that you get to see best practices. It was inspiring to see the level of care other Chambers have in communicating to their stakeholders and communicating about their community. It is a good reminder that we have to continually step up our game to serve our 340+ Investors, 6,400 Members and DSM as the region’s economic and community development organization. We’re up to the challenge!
