Grimes Fall Festival
Saturday, Oct. 11, 2025 | South Sports Complex, Grimes
Fall festivals don’t get much better than this! This Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Grimes South Sports Complex transforms into a hub of candy, costumes, games and inflatable fun for the annual Fall Festival. Along with food trucks, local vendors and a community Candy Crawl, this year also features the Children’s Entrepreneur Market, where kids ages 5–17 run their own booths. From handmade crafts to baked goodies, these young business owners show off their creativity while giving you plenty of unique shopping finds. The best part? Admission is free (just bring cash for food and treats). Costumes are encouraged, so grab the family, support some budding entrepreneurs, and enjoy a perfect fall Saturday.

Also coming up: Don’t miss Grimes Trunk or Treat on Sunday, Oct. 19, 2025 from 2–4 p.m. at the South Sports Complex, where local businesses and city officials will have their cars decked out and handing out candy for some early Halloween fun.
Indigenous Iowans Day
Saturday, Oct. 11, 2025 | Living History Farms, Urbandale
Step back in time and discover the cultures that shaped Iowa at Indigenous Iowans Day, happening on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Living History Farms in Urbandale. Through hands-on activities, crafts and live demonstrations, you’ll learn about the Ioway people of the 1700s and other Indigenous groups who have lived — and continue to live— on this land. It’s a chance to connect with history in a meaningful, interactive way while spending a crisp fall day outdoors. All activities are included with general admission.

Madison County Covered Bridge Festival

This annual tradition fills the Winterset Courthouse Square with more than 140 vendors, food stalls, live music and demonstrations that celebrate small-town charm and heritage. Don’t miss History on the Hill at the Madison County Historical Complex, the beloved parade and car show (Sunday only) and themed activities that bring the county’s history to life. This year is extra special as the festival honors the 30th anniversary of The Bridges of Madison County — a story that continues to draw visitors from all over. The Haunted Village

Looking for Halloween fun that’s more charming than chilling? The Haunted Village at the Guthrie County Historical Village & Museum in Panora is the perfect fit. This Sunday, kids (5th grade and younger) can trick-or-treat through the museum grounds while enjoying games, crafts, hayrides, storytelling and even a spooky movie (It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown — with free popcorn, of course).
