Principal Inclusion Award

November 23, 2022

Principal Financial Group® has been recognized as a 2022 Inclusion Award winner by the Greater Des Moines Partnership for championing diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI). Inclusion Award winners were selected by a committee of Inclusion Council members and Partnership team members and recognized during the 10th annual Inclusion Summit.

Principal® won in the “Large Organization” category at the Summit, held on Wednesday, Nov. 9 at the FFA Enrichment Center at the Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) Ankeny Campus. The Summit’s theme — Diversity, Equity & Inclusion: It Makes Dollars and Sense — gave Greater Des Moines (DSM) attendees the opportunity to learn more about what equity means, discover tools and resources to build equity-centered practices and honor the Inclusion Award winners of 2022. The schedule included keynotes on why equity requires transformative thinking and mindset change as well as leveraging marginalized workers in today’s economy.

Added, Intentional DEI Efforts

Recently, Principal has put an added, intentional focus on career advancement and recruitment efforts for diverse and underrepresented talent through a number of programs including its:

  • Sales development program
  • Internship program
  • Management Leadership for Tomorrow Program

Principal also has 10 employee resources groups with a total of 3,725 members representing diverse groups in terms of racial and ethnic diversity, gender diversity, LGBTQ+ and allies. These groups help employees feel supported to make an impact and grow in the workplace. It’s important to the company’s success that its employees mirror the customer base, to ensure customer needs are understood and met.

To qualify for the Inclusion Award, businesses must be a Partnership Member or Investor.
