A Gratifying + Humbling Experience Giving Back to Our Community

Giving Back in DSM

October 27, 2022

Since our founding 90 years ago, Holmes Murphy has been dedicated to giving back to the communities where we live, work and play, and this has always been something I, along with the rest of our employees, have been incredibly passionate about. With social responsibility at the core of our culture, we recognize that with continued growth and success, we need to remain vigilant in caring for and supporting our local communities.Building

Partnering with Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity

In our effort to continue this rich tradition, we recently partnered with the Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity during our United Way campaign week to construct panels that will be used in the production of a brand-new home for a well-deserving family in the area. Our employees put on their hard hats and set out to work on the project around 7 a.m. (might I add on a very chilly day), not ending until 4 p.m. To see the smiles on my teammates faces was so gratifying and knowing that we’re helping a family in our community as they embark on a new journey in a brand-new home has truly been a fulfilling.Morning Build

There are numerous residents in Greater Des Moines (DSM) who struggle daily with the lack of decent and affordable housing. More than 10,000 low-income families in our community are stuck in a tough rental situation that they may not be able to maintain financially.Building for Habitat for Humanity

That is why I, along with my husband who is on the Board of Directors of Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity, also have served as co-chairs for their Builder’s Circle Fundraising campaign this year. The support that we received from Holmes Murphy was overwhelming. It made all the difference for us, for the Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity’s campaign and for the many families that they serve in our community. I am incredibly grateful to be a part of a company that allows me, as well as all of our employees, the opportunity to truly make a difference in the lives of many people, and I’m looking forward to the many opportunities that lie ahead.

Improving the Greater Des Moines (DSM) community through volunteering and community service is a priority for many. Thanks to community engagement opportunities and leadership connecting local businesses to causes that provide services to improve the region, DSM continues to be a place that provides support for those who live, work and play here.
