4 Recipients Receive Specialized Bikes from Variety - the Children's Charity During the 2022 Principal Charity Classic

Specialized Bike Recipients

June 2, 2022

Known for its record-setting fundraising for charitable organizations in Greater Des Moines (DSM), the Principal Charity Classic continues to make an impact on the children living within our community. In 2022, four local children will receive an amazing gift thanks to one of the Principal Charity Classic’s Tournament Charity Partners, Variety – the Children’s Charity, specifically Variety’s Mobility Program. The specialized bikes will assist with balance, coordination and overall mobility so that these children can improve their strength and have the opportunity to ride with friends and family.

2022 Recipients

Yesterday, Parker, an 18-month-old boy who is unable to roll, sit or stand without support received his gait trainer. At 3:30 p.m. today, Damien, a five-year-old boy living with a nervous system disease will receive his specialized bike at Wakonda Clubhouse Terrace. Harrison, an eight-year-old boy living with a rare genetic disease will receive his specialized bike on Friday, June 3 at 5:30 p.m. at the Volunteer Appreciation Party, while Sebastian, a three-year-old boy living with special needs, will receive his bike at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 4 at the Landus Coop Suite 17th Green.

Variety works with physical therapists throughout the state to identify children who would benefit from a specialized bike or other mobility equipment. Specialized mobility equipment can include gait trainers, standers, mobile standers, specialized strollers, specialized car seats and more. If you know a child under the age of 21 who resides in Iowa, fill out an application for them to be considered for a mobility gift. Hundreds of bikes are awarded each year thanks to the generous support of Variety’s donors.
