Perhaps you have had interns in the past and are looking for ways to make your program more formalized and effective. Check out the Greater Des Moines Partnership’s Internships 101 Toolkit. This free, online guide provides employers with tools to successfully implement and maintain an internship program within their organization.

Internships 101 – free online guide

The online guide walks through key areas of implementation beginning with establishing a plan, recruiting and hiring and management tips. Also included are resources such as a sample job descriptions, local college and university contacts, sample interview questions and legal considerations.

Seize the City

Open to all interns and college students working in Greater Des Moines (DSM), Seize the City is a series of community engagement and professional development opportunities in DSM. Additionally, interns experience the culture that makes DSM unique. Beginning in May and ending the first week of August, this six-part series features presentations from community leaders who speak about the ins and outs of business success.

Accommodation

If you’re hiring interns that are new to DSM or don’t yet have a place to stay, The Partnership can assist. Grand View University and the University of Iowa provide intern housing programs to DSM businesses, organizations and educational institutions with living accommodations for the summer.

Mary Bontrager

Mary Bontrager serves as executive vice president of talent development at the Greater Des Moines Partnership, where she leads efforts to recruit and retain talent to the Greater Des Moines (DSM) region. Bontrager currently serves on Grand View University Board of Trustees, Girl Scouts of Iowa Board, South Central Iowa STEM Advisory Council and several advisory committees for Future Ready Iowa.
