One Region, One Voice at DMDC 2022

DMDC 2022

March 31, 2022

This May, the Greater Des Moines Partnership will again lead a trip to Washington, D.C. to advocate on priorities important to Greater Des Moines (DSM). Our trip is one of the largest chamber of commerce fly-ins in the country, as typically 175 – 200 people attend to advocate for regional priorities with one voice. We are excited to once again host this trip from May 11 – 13.

The last time we were able to take a full delegation to DMDC was 2019. As we all know, the world has changed significantly in the time since. What hasn’t changed is our approach to advocacy.

Advocate for Regional Priorities in D.C.

The Partnership works with Investors and Members that make up its Government Policy Council to put together a Federal Policy Agenda. This will be published in the weeks leading up to the trip. Trip attendees and elected officials use the agenda as a guide for our regional priorities. The Partnership is a nonpartisan organization, and our advocacy efforts reflect that. We work collaboratively with elected officials on both sides of the aisle to find common ground solutions.

During the trip, we have the opportunity to interact with each member of Iowa’s Congressional Delegation and their staff members, in addition to the Administration. They notice our presence. We are always grateful that they not only make time for us, but go out of their way to participate in multiple elements of the trip.

One of the added benefits of DMDC is that it brings together so many leaders and decision-makers. We are consistently joined by local elected officials and staff from across the region, board members and staff from our 24 Affiliate Chambers of Commerce and business leaders from companies of all sizes. It is an excellent networking opportunity, and some have said they get as much networking done in the three days of this trip as they do during several months at home.

Just as importantly, though, is what we can achieve together on behalf of the DSM region. The Partnership’s team often talks about how our region fights above its weight. The collaborative nature of DMDC perfectly illustrates why that is true.

Simply put: This trip matters.

If you are a CEO, president or small business owner and are on the fence about attending, I highly encourage you to sign up. Your business will benefit, and our region will benefit from your participation on the trip.
