DSM Forward: How to Respond, Return + Reinvent in the New Workplace

New Workplace Webinar

The Greater Des Moines Partnership DSM Forward webinar series offers insight on moving the Greater Des Moines (DSM) region forward in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic. As plans are made and businesses reopen, The Partnership has put together resources for employers at DSMpartnership.com/DSMForward.

The “DSM Forward: How to Respond, Return and Reinvent in the New Workplace” webinar focuses on returning to work safely post-pandemic. Amber M. Lewis, principal life/absence/disability (LAD) central market practice leader and Rich Glass, attorney, central market regulatory resource group (RRG) leader, assist Mercer, an HR consulting firm, in navigating a collaborative return to the workplace.

Leadership During COVID-19

Lewis shares how Mercer has offices around the country. Each office is staged differently based on the conditions of that area. She touches on the benefits and financial impacts on the workforce in this new normal. Businesses are trying to figure out the best ways to support their employees during a tumultuous time.

Compliance Issues

In returning to work, staffing must be considered. Glass explains what employers can share with their employees when it comes to work safety, including whether employers can tell an employee with COVID-19 to stay home and what they can tell older and/or higher risk employees.

Glass reminds employers to seek legal input, keep things confidential and more. As businesses move into recovery, Lewis explains how employers are dealing with health, digital and economic crises that will need modifications as time goes on. Employers have been through the “response” stage and are now in the “return” phase, looking forward to the “reinvent” stage. Within the “return” stage, Lewis says it is important to consider compliance issues, as well as how to get your business back on track. Lewis touched on what employers are offering in regards to dealing with different return-to-learn plans for school districts, noting that more information is being gathered as school start dates approach.
