Bunker Labs Opens in DSM with a Virtual Launch Party for Veterans

Bunker Labs in DSM

July 1, 2020

Bunker Labs DSMWhen someone joins the armed services, there is a built-in support system. Yet, when their service has ended, some veterans find themselves without enough support to flourish in their communities. A nonprofit launching a chapter in Greater Des Moines (DSM) wants to change that. Bunker Labs Des Moines is part of a national nonprofit organization focused on turning veterans' entrepreneurial aspirations into reality.

After World War II, 50% of returning veterans started businesses. Today, less than 5% of post-9/11 veterans have done the same.

Veterans + Entrepreneurship

Now is an excellent time for veterans to explore business ownership. With many veterans living in a time of employment uncertainty, potentially facing layoffs, furloughs or impacted by forced closures, business ownership can be a viable option. Bunker Labs combines free education resources, community and networks with veterans’ skills, experiences and dedication to mission success and offers these to veterans. Many veterans hold the spark of a better idea in their mind — the key is to take that idea and ignite it into a strong business.

Bunker Labs sees in DSM what many veterans saw when they came back from wherever their military career sent them: a fast-paced, robust city deep in the heart of this nation with all kinds of potential for growth and development. The Greater Des Moines Partnership also offers a comprehensive list of resources for veterans, that aims for an inclusive place to live and work for the military community.

Along with reaching out to veterans, Bunker Labs focuses on finding mentors, advocates and well-connected individuals willing to assist these budding entrepreneurs and develop their passions and talents through mentorship, networking opportunities, online training, co-working space and more. If you’re interested in sharing time and resources with veterans in DSM, attend the Bunker Labs virtual launch event on Tuesday, July 7.
