Notarizing Documents

Remote notarization is now permitted. To qualify, the notary must follow the guidelines listed below:

  • Use a “communication technology” that allows the notary and signatory to communicate by both sight and sound, as well as facilitates communication to those with speech or hearing impairments.
  • Prove Identity.
  • Record the notarial act.
  • Disclose the notarial act was completed remotely.
  • Notify the Iowa Secretary of State before its first remote notarial act.
