BKD Launches Nonprofit Leadership Series for DSM

I’m inspired by how Greater Des Moines’ (DSM’s) nonprofit leaders bring commitment, creativity and heart to drive their missions. That said, there is no denying times are tough, and nonprofits face unprecedented challenges. To help address the difficulties, BKD CPAs & Advisors launches a monthly series of complimentary webinars to provide industry insights for nonprofit leaders in DSM.

Nonprofit Leadership Series

This ongoing lineup of events is called the Des Moines Nonprofit Leadership Series. The sessions feature BKD’s local and national advisors covering key issues impacting nonprofits. Our firm serves more than 1,900 nonprofits across the nation. Our experienced advisors will bring insights to the Leadership Series.

We kick off the leadership series with a two-part presentation on “The DNA of a Dynamic Nonprofit Board” by Senior Managing Consultant Dan Prater. Prater has had leadership roles in regional and national nonprofits. He is the founding director of Drury University’s Center for Nonprofit Leadership. He co-created Drury’s master of nonprofit and civic leadership program and continues to serve as an adjunct instructor.

Upcoming Events

The online events are scheduled for Thursday, July 16, and Thursday, August 20. Both events run from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. There is no charge for the events, but advance enrollment is required. Registration is now open for Part One and Part Two.

Part One will focus on the seven-stage organizational life cycle and three legal responsibilities of nonprofit board service. Part Two will cover the culture and decisions of an effective board and the best practices for board recruitment, meetings and self-evaluation.

We will have announcements of future Nonprofit Leadership Series events as they are confirmed. For now, we hope to see many of our friends in the DSM community join our initial sessions.
