Harvest Barn Brings the Family Feel to the Downtown Farmers' Market

Harvest Barn

Harvest Barn — made up of Jason and Amy Boyer, along with their three children — is at the Downtown Farmers’ Market each week selling beef, pork and fudge from the family's farm along with cheese from Milton Creamery. They sell frozen beef and pork products and beef sticks in a variety of flavors and beef chubs.

The Boyers moved to Iowa in 1995 with 40 Limousin cattle. When talking with Jason at The Market he said that they produce a leaner type of beef than other varieties. Jason has been raising cattle since he was a child in Pennsylvania. One of the special things about The Market has been all the people they have met. Jason said that they meet people from all over. “I’ve even met people who went to the same high school in Pennsylvania that I attended,” Jason said.

Harvest BarnLike many of The Market vendors, Jason and Amy have their three children help out on Saturday’s and at their farm. They believe that working on a farm and at The Market teaches them a strong work ethic, problem solving skills and the ups and downs of farming.

Being a small producer, the Boyers said that direct marketing to customers at The Market each week for the past ten years is a good fit for them.
