3 Things You Must Do in Downtown DSM Before Summer Comes to an End
As we near the end of the first week of August, it’s beginning to feel like summer is coming to an end. But wait! There’s still so much to do in Downtown Des Moines (DSM) before the kids are back in school and sweater weather returns to Iowa. Try these three not-to-miss activities that will keep you in the summer state-of-mind for just a little bit longer.
Umphrey’s McGee Perform at Lauridsen Amphitheater
On Sunday, August 15, watch progressive rock band Umphrey’s McGee perform at Lauridsen Amphitheater in Waterworks Park as they celebrate their 20-year anniversary. The show is open to all ages and begins at 7 p.m., with doors opening at 6 p.m. Purchase tickets here.
Rent a Watercraft at Gray’s Lake
Through Labor Day, you can still rent a watercraft at Gray’s Lake in Downtown DSM from 1-8 p.m. on weekdays and 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. on the weekend. Try out a two- or three-person canoe, double kayak, stand-up paddleboard, peddle boat, which you can rent by the half hour or the hour, or rent a sailboat for, at minimum, an hour. Bike in Downtown DSM
There’s still time to hit up downtown trails on two wheels, or in the case of the Big Yellow Bike, many more! Beginning and ending at 300 Craft and Rooftop, the Big Yellow Bike will take you and a handful of your friends to many local establishments in the Historic East Village and Downtown DSM.
