Project Fastpitch Announces Softball Complex to Be Built in Newton

August 14, 2019

NEWTON, IOWA – Project Fastpitch and City of Newton leaders announced a new tournament softball development located on seventy acres north of Rusty Wallace Drive across from Iowa Speedway along Interstate 80 in Newton. The development is designed to provide an amazing experience for players, coaches, and fans with the latest technology and amenities. The development will include 16 NCAA regulation softball fields; four will be located inside a 300,000 sq ft building while the other twelve will be outdoor. All of the fields will include cutting-edge technology to help teams improve their games.

The development is a result of over two and a half years of bringing the perfect team of players, parents, coaches, developers and youth sports professionals together to collectively work on an experience that solves the challenge that fastpitch softball faces as a sport. The biggest of those challenges being the weather. With four NCAA regulation indoor fields, the days of traveling long distance only to get rained out will not be a problem at Project Fastpitch.

“I could not be more excited about being a part of this,” said Project Fastpitch leader, Troy Strawhecker. “This is going to be a physical and technological marvel. We had players, parents, coaches, and fans in mind during each piece of this undertaking.”

Project Fastpitch leaders are focused on providing an outstanding player and fan experience. The complex will host softball tournaments small and large on a year-round basis. The facility is expected to draw 250,000 visitors to Newton each year with many of them coming from out of state.

“On behalf of the City of Newton, I am proud to say we are thrilled that this state-of-the-art facility will call Newton home,” said Mayor Michael L. Hansen. “The City and our partners have had a long-term vision for this area ever since the beginning; our hard-work and patience has paid off. To be a part of a project that will thousands to get to know Newton each year is truly exciting and will have an extraordinary impact on our community for generations to come.”

The groundbreaking is expected to be in Fall 2019.
