VizyPay Focuses on Helping Rural Small- and Medium-Sized Businesses
During the latest Small Business & Startup Stories DSM podcast, Austin Mac Nab, CEO and Founder of VizyPay, and Frank Pagano, Managing Partner of VizyPay, share about what it’s like to run a business like VizyPay in Greater Des Moines (DSM).
VizyPay, with headquarters in Waukee, follows a work hard, play hard lifestyle, working to create a work culture of support, fun and meaning. In the past few years, VizyPay has been awarded for this, recently being named a No. 1 Top Workplace in Iowa, a Fastest-Growing Company in America and a Top Workplace for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
The payments system for small- and medium-sized businesses started small but has grown to be payment experts with solutions that help business owners grow their businesses and support their customers to make an impact with the services they provide.
VizyPay’s core demographic is independently-owned shops with 50 employees or less. A space can be disrupted by technology and how you represent your industry, and VizyPay focuses on rural areas to get those small- and medium-sized businesses to the next level, solving problems the right way while also making a difference.
Growing in Greater Des Moines
When thinking about bootstrapping for a DSM business, entrepreneurs should consider following:
If you’re not willing to risk everything, don’t do it. Are you willing to risk it all (bankruptcy, etc.)? True entrepreneurs succeed by not being cautious.
Have a fail-fail quick mentality.
There is no alternative to hard work and having your back against the wall.
Put together a business plan that outlines where you see the company in five years.
Part of growing a great organization is knowing and having experience with all facets of the company. If your people know you’ve done those jobs before, they will trust you more. Your opinion will become stronger among your employees, and you’ll find they want to join you in continuing to look for ways to do more. When you start from the ground up, without huge capital investments right out of the gate, you’re less likely to see your company culture change.
