The Pitch; Getting the Investor's Attention

Raising money for a new startup is never easy. In the last two years with the financial crisis, it has only become harder. A key element of raising money is the pitch. The pitch is a combination of your business plan, business model, strategy, ability to execute and financial needs all rolled up in a 10 slide presentation. What makes a pitch memorable for the investor is a pitch that has been practiced and honed to perfection; a pitch that tells a compelling story and reassures the investor you can execute the plan; a pitch that screams, "This is going to rock the world!” I know of only one way to accomplish this kind of pitch, practice.  

Pitch Your Plan Event

When I work with clients who are raising money, we put a lot of time into not only the presentation creation and refinement, but the practice of presenting to potential investors. This year a great new opportunity is available for you to practice your pitch. Technology Association of Iowa (TAI) has created a new program called the Pitch Refinement Sessions. Entrepreneurs will have an opportunity to pitch their business to a group of experts with various skill sets who can critique where their company is and where it can grow.

You can register to pitch your plan or just register to attend and listen to the pitches given. There will be angel investors, venture capitalists, entrepreneurs, business owners, industry leaders, technologists and students in the room to give you feedback. The best part is you can practice your pitch in a safe environment to people who want you to improve and succeed. Yours truly will be in the audience along with many others.
